Ad folks are a cynical and grumpy lot. The business has
become progressively negative, stressful and less stable in the last five to
ten years. The salad days are, it seems, over.
Rather than dwell on the negative aspects of the business
though, I’ve been thinking critically about it and decided to write down my
thoughts on today’s advertising industry. The goal of this blog isn’t to write
negatively about the people in the business, the creative work or to lament the
lack of fun in the business.
The goal is to raise the level of conversation about advertising
and marketing through observation, have some conversation with smart people
about a fun, stimulating and sometimes lucrative job, create a resource that
might be valuable to young people entering the business and to in some small
way try to make the advertising better.
The industry deserves it.
After all, it’s more fun than being an accountant and less
stressful than being a school teacher or cop.
Hopefully it will be a fun to read and discussion is
welcomed. So chime in with thoughts, comments or topics to cover.
